Feetwings Augments Flagship Diabetic Foot Program With New Chronic Condition Management Program via Principal Care Management

Principal Care Management for neuropathy is now available to patients through Feetwings Certified Providers.

Principal Care Management for neuropathy is now available to patients through Feetwings Certified Providers. This service provides additional focused care to patients with at least a single, serious, chronic condition. This program may be deployed in tandem with remote patient and remote therapeutic monitoring and gives added flexibility for providers to bring care directly into patients’ homes.

Principal Care Management

The program builds on the published results of Feetwings ’s flagship diabetic foot program. Remote patient monitoring is specific to physiological data and diabetic foot ulcer risk. The expanded program gives added flexibility to providers to create a more thorough care plan for people living with neuropathy, which for example can include pain and medication management and care coordination. Patients will have 24/7 access to a remote care team on the 350+ days between in-person visits.

“Traditional healthcare was designed around episodic care, but when it comes to chronic disease management, the care between clinical appointments is often the most essential for achieving better overall health outcomes”, says Ran Ma, Co-founder and CEO of Feetwings . “Yet even the highest-risk patients see their podiatrist only every two months. With this new program we are able to offer tailored and evidence-based care plans and support the care coordination of people at risk of one of the most common and costly complications of diabetes.”

Incidence of Neuropathy

It is estimated that 90% of people living with diabetes develop some form of neuropathy. Symptoms include strong nerve pain, which often requires different kinds of medication. As neuropathy progresses, it often leads to loss of protective sensation, a dangerous precondition for foot ulcers. Up to 40% of people living with diabetes will develop a foot ulcer in their lifetime. Managing this chronic condition as it progresses is key to improve4 patient outcomes and reduce costly complications and hospitalizations.

About Feetwings Socks

Feetwings Socks are smart socks that help detect potential issues with your feet. Feetwings Socks are an FDA-registered Class I medical device and are designed for people living with diabetes and neuropathy. The socks measure your foot temperature. Temperature monitoring has been shown to help reduce the number of diabetic foot ulcers in multiple clinical studies over the past 20 years and is considered the gold standard in diabetic foot care. The information from the socks is monitored by licensed nurses who contact you regularly to check on your health and the status of your feet. Your doctor reviews any issues that arise and determine if a clinic visit is necessary. Feetwings Socks are covered by Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and many private insurance plans.
